GRIP Thoughts - April 26, 2016

This week, thee story of Ruth reminded me again how much value we have, and to trust God for our needs, with our circumstances and our future. In the book of Ruth, we saw how God provided for Ruth and Naomi, and how faithful these two woman were to God in believing that He would take care of them. Ruth had a very strong loyalty to her mother-in law. “Loyalty comes from the heart. It is motivated by love and wants the best for the other person. A loyal person remains steadfast. You never have to beg the support of a loyal friend or co-worker.” (Life Principle Bible)

As we continue to read in Luke we definitely see how loyal our God is to us by sending His only son for us. I really loved reading the Beatitudes again. In Luke 6:20, when it talks about Jesus “turning His gaze toward His disciples”, I can picture Him turning His gaze towards me and speaking to me directly. Verses 31-35 were such a reminder for me to love my enemies. There is so much in these verses that God can teach each one of us. I look forward to reading the rest of Luke in the weeks to come.

I have also really enjoyed reading in the book of Samuel. I love the heart of Hannah, her love for God and how God answered her prayer. She kept her promise to God that she would give her son to the Lord all the days of his life. Samuel’s heart for the Lord and his desire to be obedient to God’s calling (1 Samuel 3:10) was honestly convicting. Samuel learned to speak the words of God clearly and with confidence (1 Samuel 3:19-20). The Israelites were determined to have a king to rule them and God granted them King Saul as their first king. While Samuel told the people that they had committed evil by having a king, in 1 Samuel 12:20-24 he also instructed the people not to fear and not to turn from the Lord, but serve Him with all their hearts. This has been such a great week of learning God’s truths from such Godly women and men of faith.
